Do yourself a favor and call your dealership and inquire about a recall.
I know that there wasn't a recall on my 91 Jetta GTX but my old 89 Jetta GTX
was recalled.
If its covered bring it directly to the dealer and let them handle the
problem.
If you need a tow just send the invoice for the tow to VW (as I did) and
they will reimburse you for it.

In any case you will difinately need a new heatercore.

I would not recomend letting a shop do the work because more than likely
they will overcharge and give you a hard time about changing it (as happened
to me).

The heatercore is only a $60 part, and there are a few accompanying gaskets
that you will need too.
I'm more than sure that the Bentley will have great advice too.

Good Luck,
Mark Reda.
