Hello...does this list still have a pulse??

If anyone is still reading this list, I'd appreciate some help with an
annoying issue I'm having with my 2.0l Motronic 16V.

When accelerating, it bogs down heavily b/t 3 and 4 grand. It will rev
nicely up to 3K, then it hits a wall right around 3K. It revs, but not
nearly with the same freedom before 3K and after 4K. I really have to give
it some pedal to get thru this powerband range. It seems to be worse when I
have decelerated, but NOT come to a complete stop, i.e. when making a right
turn at a green light. After I make the turn, I'll be at roughly 2500-2800.
It will rev OK until 3K, then it bogs down. Really frustrating when you are
trying to get up to speed in traffic. When accelerating off the line from a
stop, it seems to move through the powerband OK.

My first thought was a torn intake boot, but it doesn't buck, which is
the
common symptom of a bum intake boot.

Anyone have any ideas?? It is a stock 16V, no modifications to the
engine
or exhaust.

TIA,

        Renard
