I believe that the "G60" means that the engine is supercharged, using a
type called the "G-lader". This consists of two meshing spirals (vaguely
like letter "G" shapes) that orbit in a way that pushes air along between
them; the "60" refers to its displacement or size. The spirals don't
actually touch, so no sliding wear, but require extremely tight machining
tolerances and virtually perfect bearings etc. to work. There was also a
smaller G-40 used on some VWs, but I don't think on any US models. VW used
8-valve engines for supercharging, usually, explaining that the extra
pressure made up for the lack of valve area. I believe that you'd find the
device down low on the right end of the engine, near where the power
steering pump is on A2 cars, with a belt drive. Someone who has had one or
knows more can correct me or fill in details. HTH!
