I did it myself on my 85 Jetta (non-A/C). Took around 8 hours but I wasn't
rushing. After that
first time I felt I could probably do it again in maybe 5 hours but fortunately
it held. I
didn't need any fancy tools and I was working in my apartment parking lot.

One tip if you need to drive it is loosen the cap so the system won't build any
pressure.
Though in your case it sounds like it has really let go so it might not make
any difference.

carpet underneath the middle, and leaking fluid under the car. Now, I'm going
to try some Stop
Leak to seal it but if it doesn't work I'm not sure what to do. A VW mechanic
I've never used
advised me not to change it out myself. I have no special tools, but can
handle medium level
mechanical stuff. He said it took him like 11 hours and he billed for 9 and
that he used 3 VW
tools in the process. Any tips? Is he right in his recommendation? thanks alot
