Lower pressure is a help - good point. When my '87 lost the core, though,
even just gravity was too much. The fumes were nauseating me, my throat and
eyes were sore after driving, and I had no other transportation. I used
three pieces of pipe and two elbows to make a bypass. Think it was maybe
3/8 [nominal size] pipe? The straight pieces were maybe 2 or 2-1/2" long
nipples, threaded both ends. I made a sort of square-cornered "U", and
bypassed the core, letting it rest up high against the engine side of the
firewall. Look at the heater hose, and you can get a really good idea of
what size to use if you need a temporary fix. I couldn't use it at this
time of year: no defrost means no driving in our weather! Was -8 F
yesterday (high of +12), similar this morning.
