Adam - your story sounds much like mine when I had the 16v Slorocco
that had been the Grassroots Motorsports $2002 Challenge car. When
we built it, the intent was that I'd keep it as my daily driver which
I did. After 2 1/2 years of fighting those numerous A1 chassis
battles, enduring wet seat belts after every rain and having a/c that
was akin to an asmathic midget blowing on a melting ice cube, I was
ready to part with it but hadn't advertised it. I had the car at a
friend's shop for an oil pressure sensor - I couldn't replace it
myself b/c I'd damaged a tendon in my hand.

Some youthful and enthusiastic gent saw the car and "had to have it"
- he was flush with cash having just sold a Rustang. I give me a
price that he countered (way too low) and we agreed on a nice figure.
A few days later, he gave me a monstrous wad of cash and I turned
over the car with only a few regrets.

It gets better - the parents of this youth who was 18-19 yrs old
called the shop demanding a refund b/c they had taken advantage of
their son who had cash on-hand and apparently a minimal amount of
brains (at least in their minds). My buddy let them know that the
car was owned by a private individual (me) and that our transaction
was wholly private and not thru the shop. Fortunately they never
contacted me since I'd have been forced to tell them to bugger-off.

The story doesn't have a happy ending however - it took the youth
about 3 days to destroy the front motor mount, another month or so to
destroy the O2 sensor. At last count, Mommy backed into the car
(which was pristine) and the youth has done some serious damage to
the 2.0L 16v that I had in it. Too bad he doesn't know what's in the
car like the 3.94 4K box with a .75 5th gear or the Bilstein sports
all around.

Sigh - maybe I should just keep ALL my cars...

Haz-Matt
