There is a fueling test in the Bentley manual. I did this when assembling my
2.0l Caddy.

It required pulling the fuel injectors and placing them in cups. I placed
mine in four individual glass jars. Then I made a jumper wire which replaces
the Fuel pump relay underneath the dashboard. Once I have this jumper in
place, I then place the key in the ignition and turn it on. (But don't crank
the motor!)

Then at the Fuel distributor, I remove the boot and using a magnet, I grasp
the air plate and slowly lift. This simulates airflow and the fuel
distributor will begin sending fuel to the individual injectors.

This test demonstrates two things.
1. That there is fuel going to the cylinders.
2. That the flow from each cylinder is equivalent in volume. It will also
become obvious if an injector is dirty of clogged.

Hi 16Vs,

An update on my troubleshooting. To recap, the car left me on the
highway and will not turn over. It will crank normally but will not
start.

Today I changed the cap, rotor, plugs and ignition coil. I also checked
the timing belt and all the teeth look normal and it seems to be turning
normally.

We found no spark on the plugs which is why we decided to change the
ignition coil.

I think the next step is to check the distributor more closely. What
are some basic tests of the distributor?

Also, any chance that it is a fuel problem and not an ignition problem?
Would a fuel problem prevent the car from starting at all?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,

Larry

Then I'd leant towards the distributor.. Ive never seen a broken belted
motor turn over at normal speed. Good luck and keep us posted. If it
isn't the distributor and/or cap/rotor, then we'll go from there.. But
right now, that's where I'd place my money..
