I think that you've confirmed my thinking: make the base model stock, but offer parts to represent some body kits, taillights from different years, also if possible the large & small bumpers, and grills with US- and Euro-type headlights to make it possible to build a reasonable facsimile of many variants, both as-built and as-customized or as-raced. Probably going overboard to suggest that some representative racing wheels & tires be made, too. Frankly, I'd be happier with a plastic kit like the old ones, than with a never-quite-right metal pre-assembled model. Since I built model airplanes (starting w/ balsa and tissue, then some all-wood, and a few plastic ones), and switched to plastic car kits when I didn't have space for airplanes, my preferences are probably wrong for a lot of other a2-16v listers, though.

A 4-door Golf model? Don't think I ever saw one of those but then again, toy

The General Li probably wouldn't make a good base model - too many "aero" mods

IMO I think an 89 with single rounds and maroon or green would be cool! I have
model kit with a 4 dr hanging around my garage somewhere lol!

Gee, Matthew - are you maybe volunteering the General Li as an archetype for a
model? Wouldn't it make more sense to offer the stock version first, and then be
able to customize to match a specific full-size car? (not that I'd turn down a
Hemi-Orange-with-Stars-&-Bars-on-the-roof one in comparison to this suck-ass
thing! Actually, having one matching my '87, _AND_ a General Li, would be even
better . . . just sayin'!)

Someone made a 1/24 scale model many years ago but it was a Euro model with

small and fuzzy that I can't see them.

Speaking of 3D printer models, I watched a show on how they work and the concept is
incredibly cool. That'd be awesome to have a GTi 16v model produced in that
manner, especially one in Hemi Orange with the Stars & Bars on the roof but I
digress.

I have never seen an accurate model of a GTI 16V anywhere in any size or
material.

Seems to the companies want to reuse their Golf molds and just tack on the
round lights and call it a day.

I wonder what it would cost to get one made by a 3D printer, maybe we can all
work together to gather the schematics and chip in to hire someone to put them
together to had all the parts be 3D printed.

Hemmings says this is an accurate depiction. I don't agree: do you?
