Replaced the driver side axle and the sound was still there...  finally
decided to loosen and re torque the driver side rear control arm bolt.  It
wasn't loose, but it must not have been tight enough.  I do believe the
clunk has finally gone away.

Moral of the story... don't just check to see if all bolts are tight (like
I did when this clunk first appeared) - break them loose and retorque.
