Instructions to unsubscribe from this list at the end of the message - --------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have a tar.gz file, try doing the following:
1) Copy the file from CD to anywhere in your home directory 2) right-click on the file and select 'Extract Here' 3) Open a terminal window and CD to the location where you extracted the file (take note, a sub-folder might have been created) 4) Type './configure' 5) When that's done, type 'make' 6) When that's done, login as root (type 'SU') and then type 'make install' That generally works, but if it doesn't, you can try installing anything related with 'gcc' from the Mandrake Control Centre. Hope I helped, Keith - -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of David Bailey Sent: 30 June 2003 10:10 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Instructions to unsubscribe from this list at the end of the message - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Well there are 2 ways generally used to install a program on linux.. either through binary distributions (RPMs) which do not require you to compile the program, or installing by obtaining the source and compiling it (using the gcc compiler). The source is usually compressed in .tar.gz format (similar to .zip files in Windows). I'm guessing you have RPMs in your CD, so just double click them and the packages will be installed. You should then find the program's executable (or folder) in /etc or /usr/local. Hope this helps ;) David - --- Aaron Delia <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Instructions to unsubscribe from this list at the > end of the message > - --------------------------------------------------------------------- > Hi, to all i am absolutley new to linux which i > decided i wanted to give it a try, one annoying > problem i have found is that on windows i use to run > the program setup and olha!! all is done, and with > mandrake 9.1 it seems like i cannot do that, is > there > a simple way for idiods to install a software on > mandrake 9.1.
