I tried Beryl too and ran it for a couple of months. However, I found out that it slowed down my compile times. Its probably due to some excessive polling of IRQs or excessive traffic on the AGP bus. I just know that my compile times went up by 2X. I still have it installed and use it occasionally when I am not doing anything which is resource intensive.
I find some things to improve my efficiency of doing things via a GUI. I do not keep too much bling switched on. Just a waste of GPU cycles. On 3/6/07, Gregory Smirnov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

But practically it slows down my working place, so I switched back to normal desktop (kde or xfce4) at work and home. Same on my laptop, I need efficient performance, not 3D tools. Personally I prefer desktop environment to text console. But latest was a good start about 10 years ago, and still remains on the servers. Most popular programs I use: kontact, konsole, vim, kate, make, gaim and firefox/epiphany.
