you could always try it off the live cd. i dont have a kvm so i dunno how good k/ubuntu is with them. i have had considerable success duel booting kubuntu and windows xp as well as vista. i know im probably sounding biased to other distros, but thing is with kubuntu i have never seen at least on laptops as well as for the short time i had it on this desktop so much stuff work correctly out of the box. for instance my tablet laptop i for a yr or so had issues getting kubuntu to work. i tried open suse and had night mares with sound playing out of the speakers while headphones are plugged in kubuntu i havent had this issue. now i have kubuntu and when i installed it i was impressed i had direct rendering for my video card out of the box.
