Regarding this point our mirror sponsor is currently GO. I've just tried downloading the latest Ubuntu from the local mirror (I'm on Melita) and got a speed of 125Kb/s - which means we're getting a 1Mbps upload speed. On the other hand when I download from the UK I get 1.4MB/s (That's megabytes not megabits). So as you can see our mirror is pretty pointless at the moment.
GO's commercial packages for home users as well as businesses offer 1Mbps at their most expensive - but that's a retail package not co-location. None of the three major ISPs in Malta tell will tell you how much bandwidth is available for co-located servers, however to get speeds similar to what you can get on a 10Mbps connection from the UK via our server we'd need our upload speed to be 10Mbps. So, when talking to GO, that's how much upload bandwidth we should ask for. Not because we're greedy, but because anything else would make the server absolutely redundant. Whether or not we'll actually get this speed is another matter, which puts into question the need for the mirror.
