Well, yeah.  But if I get my movies from elsewhere I'm not really going 
to waste money on Mr. iPod when I already have elsewheres to play them.  
And I'll buy an ebook reader when there are significant sources of 
nonDRM-ed ebooks.  At the moment I'm picking them up from files the 
authors have posted themselves (academic stuff, Cory Doctorow, famnfic) 
and books I can buy from Baen Books.  That comes nowhere near the 
universe of books I'd like to buy.  I read them on my Nokia N800, which 
was bought for other purposes, isn't entirely convenient because its 
controls weren't really designed for book-reading, but will serve, being 
somewhat open.  I'm not going to spend money on something more ergonomic 
until there are enough nonDRM books to justify it.

And that's why I'm probably not going to buy an Ipod.  Or an Ipad.  Or 
a Kindle...
