Not sure about DD-WRT or Tomato, since I stick to OpenWRT, but you may also want to take a look at RouterStationPro, since that's one of the very few routers that hasn't just been hacked to run third-party firmwares, but where the vendor actually bundles OpenWRT. http://www.ubnt.com/rspro They have a variety of configurations available. A complete router (mainboard plus one radio plus the box to put it in) will inevitably end up being slightly more expensive than an off-the-shelf home router, but I'm sure it'll be better for your karma, and the easy access to a serial port and other such things might also come in handy. You may also want to let Cisco/Linksys know that you appreciate their (reluctant) support for Free Software (it only came as a result of long protracted legal wrestling) and get a wrt160nl or some such.
