The sim card is what identifies you as a subscriber. The cell phone in which it is installed should definitely not make a difference. My son has a Rogers account with a Telus Cellphone. He switched the sim.
My son-in-law did a switch from Bell to Public Mobile phone with the new SIM Google Chile and their new Cellphone law that went into effect.
