Hi, Nelson. Thanks for the tips!
Addison has a store near Pie-IX and Jarry in Montreal, as well. (http://addison-electronique.com/). After their renovation 2~3 years ago, their prices went up, but they still have aisles of connectors, gadgets, speakers, security systems and other electronics. Less surplus material than they used to, though. I had forgotten about Active Electronics! I thought they shut down 5 years ago but I was mistaken. They used to have a store on the Metropolitain East, it seems they just shrunk the store. I was reminded of Abra Electronics (http://www.abra-electronics.com/pages/Montreal-Store.html). Also on the Metropolitain (anyone sensing a trend here?). I haven't visited their store yet. They seem to carry JTAG programmer/debuggers and USB-to-TTL serial converters. I miss the Radio Shack style stores for hobbyists. Overpriced, but they were littered all over the map and you could walk into any of them and pick up a relay, some ribbon cable, telephone plug crimp tools, and the whole series of Forrest Mims III booklets. The downside was the clerk who didn't want to sell his last spray bottle of contact cleaner, no longer honoring their battery of the month card and refusing to sell to you without your postal code. Good luck on your renewed electronics interest!
