And other changes that are required because there is no systemd. A number of subsystems have been dropped as a result; e.g. the latest versions of gnome depend on systemd and are gone, though a lot of gnome components, such as gtk, are still around because they don't. There are stll a few systemd components around, because it takes time to get rid of everything, but the init is ordinary system V init. There's a udev replacement being written, called vdev. The devuan package repositories contain the packges they have changed. For other packages, they issue an automatic transparent redirect to the Debian repositories. They are *that* compatible. I installed devuan last August, judging from my filedates, and have been happy with it. I did install from scratch on a new hard drive, partly to test the installer. I couldn't do the Debian wheezy to Devuan jessie upgrade because I already had Debian jessie on my system. But who knows? It might have worked anyway. And there's a substantial mailing list. They are *very* interested in dealing with user problems. As long as the problem isn't that you want systemd. In that cse they advise you to use Debian. -- hendrik > -- > Ravnox > > > >By the way, Deevuan *is* a Debian derivative. > >Most of the packages are even the Debian packages without any change. > >Only a few have been modified so they work without systemd. > > > >It's even possible to upgrade to Devuan jessie straight from > >Debian wheezy. > > > >-- hendrik > >_______________________________________________ > >mlug mailing list > >[email protected] > >https://listes.koumbit.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mlug-listserv.mlug.ca > _______________________________________________ > mlug mailing list > [email protected] > https://listes.koumbit.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mlug-listserv.mlug.ca _______________________________________________ mlug mailing list [email protected] https://listes.koumbit.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mlug-listserv.mlug.ca
