Hi,

This is a common misunderstanding. Since you select answers 2, 3 or 4
when you answered the card _correctly_, then the interval is increased
for the next time. This is the basis of a spaced repetition system.
It's just increased by a smaller factor than if you'd answered 3 or 4
(but the factor is still greater than 1).

A rough guide to what Mnemosyne or another SRS does could be:
0/1 -> Wrong, move the card to the forgotten/unlearned pile
2 -> Correct, but it was too difficult so don't schedule it as long as
3 or 4 - set the next interval to some constant i (> 1) multiplied by
the current interval
3 -> Just right - set the next interval to some constant j (> i)
multiplied by the current interval
4 -> Too easy - set the next interval to some constant k (> j)
multiplied by the current interval

Making the interval for a card you answered 2 shorter than it was this
time around is redundant, because we already know that we can
successfully answer the card after that interval.
