I'm new to all this SRS stuff, I came to mnemosyne by chance when
browsing the Open Directory listings for memory training.

I'm not sure why I chose to try mnemosyne first, I think it was the
cool name + some good reviews on some blogs when I googled the
software. Anyway I immediately got stuck in and have already got 1500
or so flashcards up and running. Of course no software is perfect and
I have encountered a number of things that have bugged me, features
that I'd like to use, possible improvements etc. I've also noticed
that there are really quite a few SRS programs out there and it struck
me that I didn't want to invest too much time into one program, if
there were others that would better suit my needs.

Don't get me wrong, I think mnemosyne is wonderful, but I thought I'd
ask other mnemosyne users who have had experience of other SRSs why
they prefer mnemosyne over the others. Are other free programs such as
Anki or FlashQard substantially different from mnemosyne? Do the
paying programs such as FullRecall offer any obviously better
features? (I've looked at the SuperMemo site and can see both the
benefits and disadvantages in that one)

Finally what is the compatibility of the different SRSs like? A lot of
them say that you can import each other's databases, but does all the
learning and scheduling metadata get imported too? I'd hate to have to
go through an entire year's worth of flashcards all over again if I
wanted to change programs, it would be little better than losing the
database altogether. How about the compatibility of the flashcards
themselves? I like to use images, sound and the html tags in my cards,
if different SRSs use a different method, again it would be a
nightmare to have to reformat all the cards.

Anyway I'll download the other programs and mess about a bit, but I
just wanted to get people's thoughts and opinions on this as well.
Sometimes it takes a lot of time using a software before you really
realise its strengths and weakenesses.

Thanks for any input!
