I have let time lapse, but I don't obsess over when it schedules things. I do 2 things; trust the algorithm, and don't overload myself.
Your numbers will vary of course, but I study from 3 distinct decks. My normal one, and 2 special ones for specialized info. On my normal one, I have a limit of 60 cards per day. If what's scheduled is more than 60, I just do the first 60 and leave it alone till tomorrow. Sometimes if I have a mixture of scheduled plus backlog, like 30 scheduled and 100 non-memorized, I'll do the 30 scheduled, and whatever I can get through in the next 15 minutes or so. In short, I do a time or number limited amount of work per day, and let the algorithm handle the rest. I'm not looking for perfect optimization here, just something that works well enough for me.
