I'm not sure what you're talking about as far Pavement's culmination of
frustration in dealing with a major label since "Brighten the Corners" was
released on Matador which isn't a major. True, it was one of those
Matador/Capitol Records releases, but that doesn't make it a major label
record, and I doubt very seriously that Capitol influenced that album. As
far as I know, Capitol didn't try to fuck with Liz Phair's newest one or
the last two of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion albums, either. My
personal theory is that Pavement did the last of their fun, goofy songs for
"Wowee Zowee" and now we're stuck with all this slick, professional stuff.
I'm not saying that's a bad thing, either, but I really loved "Wowee
Zowee." And now anyway, Matador is a real independent since they quit their
deal with Capitol.
But anyway... MMouse on Epic. I don't know anything about Epic except that
they have Pearl Jam and Korn and Oasis, and those are some pretty scary
bands. Well, Pearl Jam's not too scary, I guess.... I just really hope
that Epic doesn't ruin 'em like Geffen ruined Jawbreaker.
That guy from the Promise Ring needs to lose weight.
