Bit late but:

Yeah, but not if he's asking for it while there's a full dancefloor of
people dancing to some class tune, because then he's showing himself up as
closed minded - using the little knowledge you have rather than wanting to
learn more. And I'd wager that's exactly the sort of person to turn into an
elitist arsehole later on, if they don't burn out. From a DJing point of
view you can pretty quickly tell the difference between youthful enthusiasm
(to be encouraged) and people asking for things to try and prove some sort
of point, who are just asking for a put-down. I guess it's like stand-up
comics and hecklers.

And as Mark says it's not usually the 17 year olds that are the problem,
it's the ones that want to hear Eton Rifles (like you haven't got bored of
it in 20 years?).

But then it's a lot easier to get into the Fleur-de-Lys, so it's swings and
roundabouts - these days you can learn to be a mod (read up on the right
records, right clothes, rather than it all being unspoken and changing).
