Yes, well if you've not noticed via VH1, "Oldies radio" or any of the various
"hip" new boxed sets offered by Rhino or Columbia, the term back then (and
now to denote the period) was "British Invasion". IE: British Pop consumed by
the American masses. Are the Creation considered "Invasion" to the average
American consumer? No. The Beatles "One" album certainly fills the void for
an increasingly lethargic audience. Are Oasis "Mods"? Is Britpop "Mod" music?
Who's really to say...it depends how high(or low) you set your standards.....
Maybe not....maybe so....there's not a whole lot else happening in modern pop
that can even remotely relate to Mod aesthetics ....to each his/her own.
Those who shun Britpop for what it is (and all it is is an overly inclusive
genre label....no less vague than the term "Jazz" or "Soul" have become in
recent years) are simply afraid to let go of the dwindling past. Is it Mod?
No......or yes. The most interesting aspect of this whole debate is that it
all began with a phony post about Union Jack seat covers for a fucking
Pontiac. Does anyone see parallels to the fake "The Days" post some 2 months
back? It takes some bored moron to post a fake message to get everyone on
this list actually talking about relevant issues. Maybe we need MORE morons
on the list.........
