I'm a Slackware user myself, and the only time I've ever seen mine
segfault was when I tried to use the slackware gdbm library for the
session cache.
I guess just to be safe you could try starting from scratch with a
completely fresh copy of Apache, apply mod_ssl to it, and go from there.
Let us know what happens...
