Maybe Vircom could clarify for the list what setting is best to
be used with their products?

MT> Modusmail/Vopmail do something with regards to multiple cpu's as we found an
MT> early bug back in vopmail when we installed our quad xeon box. The vopmail
MT> services just wouldn't run until we got patched services. That said, I think
MT> you are correct in that the services appear to be tied to a processor, but
MT> then again I'm not sure. When our server is under load all of the cpu's tend

MT> durations. It may be that this is due to moduscan, modusadm, and smtprs are
MT> all busy dealing with the load, but I would expect the smtprs spike to be
MT> less of an issue than the scanning process. Not a big deal though as the
MT> mail still gets through.

MT> Subject: [Modus] hyper threading on Windows 2003

MT> * This is the modus mailing list *

MT> I don't think Hyper Threading will affect Modus Mail in any way, however
MT> you should be aware that Modus Mail is not written to take advantage of
MT> multiple processors. Each Modus Mail service will utilize a single
MT> processor and affinities can be set so that the services are bound to a
MT> specific process.

MT> Hyper Threading in essence presents a single CPU as multiple CPU's to
MT> the operating system and hence should not affect Modus Mail or any other
MT> application. The Hyper Threading drivers should allow Modus Mail to
MT> function as though it is using multiple CPU's and hence in turn improve
MT> overall performance.

MT> If you do install Modus Mail with Hyper Threading turned on I would be
MT> interested in knowing what you see for Page Faults in the ModusADM and
MT> ModusSCAN services as I believe this may increase. Page Faults do not
MT> indicate any problems with the software and it will function perfectly
MT> fine, however they do indicate a possible performance bottleneck in that
MT> the system expects to find something in memory that is no longer there
MT> (there is a lot more to page faults than this, but I wanted to keep
MT> things simple).

MT> Should we enable hyper threading or not?
