Wohhhaa, this is gonna start one long thread (maybe it will end up with high fives, maybe not).

Whilst I like your suggestion for an NNTP server I still prefer mailing lists. Thankfully Outlook 2003 includes a thread view so I can treat email just as I would on an NNTP server. In addition since we use MS Exchange 2003 as our main corporate servers any rules I create are applied on the server and hence I can filter out any unnecessary messages / sender as well as sort my mail accordingly. As an active member on several mailing lists and a somewhat inactive but present member on others I see thousands off messages a day, the filtering allows me to deal with the important stuff first and come back to see the not so important stuff as and when I have time.

Anyway, further to your suggestion I would also like to see Vircom use an NNTP server as it could provide an archive. In addition to this they should consider a Web Based forum, so that those that don’t want to join a mailing list or use a news reader can access the information there. Of course all three should be tied together, so that new posts appear on all three mediums and responses get placed in the same way. I know Microsoft has achieved this for Web Based and Newsgroup based access by using NNTP components on their web site, however Mailing List integration is an additional option.

Suneel.

You guys talk too much!

I think moving this to a newsgroup server would be quite helpful. Whole threads could be bypassed. As it is, ten messages down the thread people are off on something else or just high-fiving each other.

I get more mail on this than all my other mailing lists combined.

Its just a mail server folks - there is life beyond it.
