Many do not use OE. I for one use Outlook XP which does not have a
newsreader built in. It will do news if you click on View > Go To >
News but in reality it just uses the OE newsreader off of an OE
Identity. This is VERY lame. The whole beef here is I don't want to go
to multiple places or to use multiple applications to get this info.

I am not opposed to the NNTP server or a forum as long as the messages
are still sent to me via email. I like to think that I am very active
on this list in multiple facets. I know that my participation would not
be as great if I could not participate via email. Let's face it; we ALL
have to communicate via email to stay in business. Hence the question:
why would we want to move this valuable resource entirely to another
medium when we all have our email applications open ALL DAY checking
email every few minutes?

Guys, there seems to be a misunderstanding here.

For us to use NNTP, Vircom runs a PRIVATE NNTP server. They give you a
link
like news://news.vircom.com and you click on it. (authentication is
optional - depending on the server used and the desires of Vircom).

If you use Outlook/Outlook Express, the server then pops up on your list
of
folders on the left side, you choose the group you want to participate
in
and you read/reply very similar to using email. It is very simple and
the
information stays on the Vircom server.

It is instantaneous, updates occur faster than if sent by email. To see
if
there are any new messages, click on the folder/server link on the left.

You do NOT have to run a server. Many groups are using USENET "style" of
servers for support these days. You do not need to have on a public
USENET
news group which would be open to spam, etc. It could be private and
authenticated.
