Gary,

In defense of the industry.. Those in our position get the list from the network providers that own the numbers. They give us a list and we publish it, there is really no way for us to verify each of the thousands of numbers without actually getting someone in each city to make a call and report back when they get their phone bill.

It happens sometimes as you say but it's not really a problem with their database per say, it's really a problem with the local telcos and the networks issuing the numbers. The networks should do the verifying before issuing a number but I don't think they do. It seems that usually it's the local telcos that are to blame because they often show the number as clearly a local call then bill it as long distance. In many cases customers will call their local telco to verify that it's local or they punch it into their telcos website where it says the number is local. When the local telco says it's local then bills it out as long distance, it's pretty clear that the local telco has an issue.

It is an ugly problem but luckily it does not happen too often.

Just wanted to chime in and explain why this happens at times.

Thanks,
 Todd Routhier

How about that Velocity West crap and be careful with their database. It has errors in it. ie. listing numbers as being in city a when the number is out of a rate center in city b which is a expanded toll call.

We have been using Flexpop, http://www.flexpop.net
Your auth, your email, they have always been extremely responsive to issues. I've always said, every service will have issues, the point is how do they handle them, and they have always treated us well.

Subject: [Modus] OT - National Wholesale Dial

This is an Off Topic e-mail requesting recommendations for national wholesale dialup providers.  Sorry for the second OT post today but now that I dont have to spend so much time fighting spam I have time to work on other projects.  THANKS VIRCOM!  :-)

We were just notified that our current source has gone to a $500 per month minimum.  We are NOT EVEN CLOSE to that so we need to switch providers.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Drew
