OK, so the IP is static and you should check that it is listed in the Allow Relay from 
Hosts to ensure that IP is there. It actually sounds as though it might be using 'POP 
before you drop' to authenticate and hence a send and receive attempts to send first 
failing, then retrieves all messages, and on next attempt it sends first this time 
having been authenticated by the previous POP3 connection.
