When I talked to our MS VAR, which happens to understand a
lot about how our mail system works, he was quite certain that it would fall
under 1 CAL for the mail server, and 1 CAL for the webmail server. He
thought there might be a few more CALs for the mail server in MS eye, because of
the totally seperate services accessing that license, so modusscan might need a
CAL, SMTP, POP3, etc.

Don't forget, you have five fingers so you may require a license for each
one as you use them to grasp the mouse. Oh, yes, the mouse may need one as well.
Further, you are viewing the results of the SQL querie via a monitor, you
may need a license for it as well.
As long as you don't
tell anyone what the results of the query is you will not have to get more
licenses. If you do tell them, you will need a license for each person you
tell the results to.
