If you want ideas from a complete numpty, does it occur in the wet or after rain? Could water creep in and short the light out? Have any wires been damaged/trapped and thus 'broken', perhaps allowing water in somewhere. If it takes 50 miles before it goes, could heat be involved? Is a wire/component near a heat source and overheating and breaking the circuit? Many years ago I had a similar fault and a new indicator selector fixed it, perhaps a clean up inside the switch cowl could reveal a problem with the indicator selector arm/contact? Apologies for naive suggestions but perhaps something may offer a 'spark' of light. Cheers
