Gerry, I'm pretty much convinced my bugs didn't come through the heater inlet. I have just taken a look at the top of the heater box (2011 +4) and it's fitted with a fine piece of black mesh-foam, for want of a better description, that I reckon no insect could have penetrated and showing no evidence of trapped bugs. My bet is still on ingress over the top of the screen. The catalogue of deceased fauna trapped included bees, butterflies, moths, beetles and lord knows what else; the specimens that got through were the smaller ones, like mosquitoes.

Although I was travelling solo, I'd filled most of the passenger footwell and parcel shelf with stuff necessary for the trip- I also had my Boot-Bag strapped to the carrier containing my clothes etc. Although the weather could have been better, I didn't seem to encounter that much rain whilst I was driving- I haven't taken the hood down so I've yet to see how many bugs are accumulated there./*

Gerry -

I'm interested to read of your experience as I too, in France around the Le Mans Classic weekend, experienced an influx of dead insects that covered my co-driver and me like a load of crumbs. In our case it happened only when the hood was on and it was raining. Our impression was that the insects were dying on impact with the windscreen, then being washed by the rain (there was a lot) through the screen/ hood gap. This was borne out by the large quantity of dead bugs we later found lodged under the front edge of the hood, as though in the queue to be washed on to our shirts...

Any other explanations of the dead bug phenomenon?

Gerald
