HI David

Went through exactly that with my wife! She only relented after the MMC
agreed to exchange the OE set up for a Mota Lita and Hub and I showed her
there is nothing to shear.

I was very lucky in the fact we had just driven a coast road and were
turning into our lunch stop (when I guess max torque would be applied
anyway) and the wheel just turned off. 5 of the 6 tacks had sheered, 4
showed no inclusion in the weld at all.

It was one of Christopher Bushell-Kings weekends and he spoke with the
staff at the restaurant enquiring about a garage with a welder (or the kit
I can weld) and as luck would have it one of the staffs father had rented
an arc welder for the weekend to repair his gate and after lunch we all
trolled over to the guys house and in 5 min he had the thing correctly seam
welded.

Photos were sent to MMC and because of my background in the trade I wanted
a recall notification, they promised to check all stock of hubs and send a
notification to the dealer network. No idea of the stock check but 2
dealers confirmed they had heard nothing from the factory 3 months after
the event.

That's when I reluctantly (as I felt it was their responsibility to handle
this matter) posted the report on here and elsewhere with photos. There
were about 20 witnesses to the event, some were automotive engineers.

Ho Hum, buyer beware indeed!

BR
