Gosh Colin, I guess we never know just how close to the wind we sail half the time especially with someone else's hand on the tiller, it reminds us how fragile we all are! At least with a Mota Lita you can see nuts and bolts! I hoped to avoid such 'mishaps' by buying a two owner car but that's no guarantee either, I now know.
I'm glad it all worked out and understand your reluctance to post but am not impressed by MMC missing the chance to avert disaster and engage intelligently in well meant feedback from qualified people. My experience is that they may well have done more than they have let on but there are ways of doing things.
