Dario,   WOW! That's an incredible restoration job -- thanks for showing us the pictorial sequence from bad to beautiful. You're a genius. Even as a "rescue job", this project would still fall within my personal parameters for a "restoration" because there was almost no paper loss to begin with, and the painting that had to be done to fix all those horrible tape residue stains doesn't look like it amounts to much more than 20% of the total image area of the poster (my trip-point for clicking over from restoration to recreation is around the level of 35% overpainting).   Care to tell us how many hours were involved in this beautiful restoration?   -- JR   ----- Original Message ----- From: Dario Casadei To: MoPo-L@LISTSERV.AMERICAN.EDU Sent: Thursday, December 01, 2005 17:13 Subject: Re: [MOPO] Restoration or recreation? I personally think it is very important that we save as many old original movie posters that we can. This poster would not have survived much longer unless some serious rescue effort was undertaken. The tape had distorted the shape of the poster as well as gelled the paper right through and the poster was extremely dry and brittle. Foremost it was an rescue effort.
