Hey Gang,
Happy New Year !! I have been away from my computer for a
few days and am glad I came in on the end of this "gay" thread. That
way I got to read a whole bevy of posts before I "foolishly" jump into the
brew! One thing does amaze me, though, after all these
years of David posting, that so many of you just don't get his sense of
humor. Having known David for many years and consider him a good friend in
the "outside" world, I know that there was no offense meant in asking "are
you gay?" I'm sure it was more of a rhetorical question that one meant to
actually take a census. He is truly one of the most honest (from his
background) and kind (from his wife) people I have ever known.
Always there when you need him.
I didn't find the posts in response to Brokeback Mountain that
unusual. After all, we here on the group are just a microcosm of the real
world and that's how the real world is, split in their views of many
subjects, not just homosexuality. I'm sure what makes it difficult here is
when you have so much in common with fellow members on a regular basis and
then some can have such harsh views that, while I'm not sure are meant to,
can hurt feelings, especially if you are gay. Evan spoke of living in a very
tolerant community and taking it for granted. I'm sure many of the people on
this group do not live in a "tolerant" community. That was evidenced by the
last election. So it's probably difficult to hear certain comments when you
have come to feel "comfortable" in a group.
While certain comments are sad to me, I am heartened by many of the
comments of tolerance and support I did hear especially from guys like JR
and Bruce, who I consider good men. I do believe in to each his own. While I
may disagree with some people view's on many topics, I support your right to
have those views. The problem I have is that some of those views propagate
violence. Andy mentioned that his father brought him up to kiss ladies and
not gents. That's fine, but what would have happened if Andy was born gay.
Would he have hidden his feelings or would he have had an understanding
enough father to love and accept him whatever his orientation? I have
had many a gay friend who were ostracized by their family and friends once
their homosexuality was out in the open. It's no wonder, as someone said,
that so many gay men live straight lives because they fear the ramifications
of coming out. Who wouldn't?
So.........whatever your views..........have a wonderful and safe new
year. Good health to you all and, more than anything, happiness and love
wherever you can find it.

Re: [MOPO] No gay lists !!!
OK, so I've been taken to the
woodshed. Notes subsequent to my purposely
provocative subject
line, "Are You Gay?" I hoped clarified the proper
context of my query,
half in jest, as to its relevance when discussing films
w/themes
covering territory familiar to some, but not to all. You
know,
I've been on this list since the 1990s and tangent comments
related to film
at the occasional exclusion of movie posters have
always been OK. So for
the very few who took my comments as
having the moral equivalence of a
McCarthy witch-hunt, geez, if I have
to explain they weren't, it's obvious
some thought I slipped off the
steering wheel and crashed into the
trash
heap...
koose!

Aw, c'mon
now, people... this *is* a movie poster list. Sure, occasionally
we go
a bit off track talking about a movie, but at least they are
called
"movie" posters... This subject has ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE on MOPO
and, David,
that you of all people should call for a show on hands
about the subject
here... really.
