| In Texas we honor GIANT, while realizing that GIANT is a kind of love song to the myth of Texas, the Texas that even Texans have never quite seen. I don't believe that any other film pays homage to the idea of any place in quite the same way. Ferber tried to repeat her success with ICE PALACE - about Alaska as you may imagine. The book was a best seller but few people remember it today. In fact, when was the last time anyone read GIANT? What made the film so memorable was the cast and the way the script grafted the idea of stubborn individualism to the notion of tolerance and acceptance of all people. To understand Stevens' motivations I recommend watching GEORGE STEVENS: A FILMMAKER'S JOURNEY by George Stevens, Jr. Kirby McDaniel www.movieart.net On May 6, 2006, at 1:18 AM, Joseph Bonelli wrote:
