I think it is interresting that a lot of us have the little pieces of this game
carved out for ourselves.
But we all make it in our own little way.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] 99 Cent Opening Bids--- A Help or a Hinderance?

  Hi, Everyone,

I notice that quite a few dealers out there are starting their auctions at
a 99 cent opening bid. I've always been apprehensive about this, especially
when you're dealing lower or mid-range material. You're leaving yourself open
for a poster that 10 or 15 years ago would have sold for $50 to $75 in Movie
Collector's World selling for $2.50 or even less! If a dealer who doesn't have
the status & noteriety of Bruce lists, say 200 posters. each at a 99 cent
opening bid---if you look at the realized prices, maybe 20 or 30 sell for more
than 10 bucks. Of course, if you're listing a "Frankenstein" title card, you
can easily start the bidding at 99 cents and it will take on a life of its own
without any effort from the seller and zoom to great heights. But on the
lower level material, the eBay "fodder", if you don't have the following that
Bruce has--- I've found that most mid-range items that start at 99 cents more
often than not sell for pennies on the dollar. Hey, I'd rather re-list a
poster 3 or 4 times and get my $19.99 (or $14.99) than start the bidding at 99
cents and sell a $40 one sheet or 1/2 sheet for $1.75!! Just wanted to add my
two cents. Thanks for listening.
                                                                        Rick
