They were NOT frames from the film. The studios used to shoot numerous
publicity stills and in addition to these they shot a still that
duplicated each take and each shot in the film. In retrospect, the
studios were not always "lucky" in their picks for lobby cards. For
instance in the lobby card set from "From Here To Eternity" they did not
pick the shot of Kerr and Lancaster on the beach with the waves breaking
over them; they chose a shot of Kerr and Lancaster on the beach BEFORE
they took all their clothing off !!! FRANC

Subject: [MOPO] how were scene cards and lobby cards photographed???

are scene/lobby card photographs merely a FRAME from the film, or did
the actors pose specifically for a still photograph?

pretty amazing that some cards depict the essence or mood of the film,
while others are so uninspiring.

the famous scene card (also on the insert) of Marilyn in ALL ABOUT EVE
is not special..........but, boy, did the studio get lucky in
retrospect. clearly......some decisions were guesswork or being lucky
in making the decisions.
