Hi all, I haven't checked recently, but UPS used to be SELF insured. meaning that their insurance company was actually a division of UPS. The policy used to be that when a package went astray, and their insurance division had to pay for the shipment, then IF that package was ever found, it was automatically the property of UPS because they PAID for it by way of insurance claim. They had a huge property room of packages that had been paid for by claims. Ever so often, their insurance division would auction off that material that had been acquired to help recover some of the claims money that they had paid out on the lost packages. This is a fairly common practice with companies that self insure.
So this doesn't sound like any type of schnanagans, UNLESS the insurance claims had NOT been paid. THEN it would be considered some type of fraud. Several of their "auctions" included items that at some point were in a "missing" package mailed to Steve Fishler. We told him about this and he, or course, contacted the U.S.P.S. but not with as much luck as Dominique. I always thought that mailing posters is safe of such "mishaps", because only a true collector will know the real value of contents, but I guess I was wrong. It was a strong tube of 5 feet long. The buyer received a shoe box containing rolls of paper towels .... After 2 proceedings, UPS was forced to pay me 38.000 Euros. Yesterday the 8 posters were sold at Christie's South Kensington (Lots 166, 169, 170, 174, 177, 178, 179 and 180). Being an honest person, I informed UPS of the sale, and they lodged a complaint for stealing against Christies. Today, I've learned who the consignor of these posters was.... And the winner is ..........................U P S Yes, incredible but true, your eyes don't lie. I just spoke with the french police agent who interviewed me, and she told me that the seller is a UPS subsidiary ..... As soon as I can get more info, I'll keep you informed.
