my question with this, tho, is (and i know there are some packages
that are mislabeled, or addresses get smeared, etc) but if they have
a room full of unopened packages, that will have on them both a
recipient's address AND the sender's address--- why are they either
not delivered OR returned to the sender? something doesn't make sense
there, does it? packages that go missing are mishandled. if they are
still in the custody of say, UPS, why dont they make the attempt to
either deliver or return the shipment?
i understand they will pay the claims.. but ultimately, people just
want their "Stuff.".. lol. holding a roomful of packages makes me
scratch my head a bit. i dont understand that method of operation--
again, unless there is that percentage where labels have been damaged
and neither the sender or receiver can be determined---that number
HAS to be small, though, i would think. why not return to sender?
easy, i would think.
anyhow..

their insurance division had to pay for the shipment, then IF that
package was ever found, it was automatically the property of UPS

property room of packages that had been paid for by claims. Ever so
often, their insurance division would auction off that material
that had been acquired to help recover some of the claims money
that they had paid out on the lost packages. This is a fairly
common practice with companies that self insure.
So this doesn’t sound like any type of schnanagans, UNLESS the
insurance claims had NOT been paid. THEN it would be considered
some type of fraud.

Along the same line of Dominique's story, I don't know if any of
you remember, but a few years ago, the U.S.P.S. was selling on eBay
various items including movie posters.
Several of their "auctions" included items that at some point were
in a "missing" package mailed to Steve Fishler.
We told him about this and he, or course, contacted the U.S.P.S.
but not with as much luck as Dominique.
I always thought that mailing posters is safe of such "mishaps",
because only a true collector will know the real value of contents,
but I guess I was wrong.

Hello from France,
As some of you are aware, 5 years ago I've had a "problem" with UPS
shipping : I sent 8 Audrey Hepburn's posters to Los Angeles via UPS
for a total value of 38.000 Euros. It was a strong tube of 5 feet
long. The buyer received a shoe box containing rolls of paper
towels .... After 2 proceedings, UPS was forced to pay me 38.000
Euros. Yesterday the 8 posters were sold at Christie's South
Kensington (Lots 166, 169, 170, 174, 177, 178, 179 and 180). Being
an honest person, I informed UPS of the sale, and they lodged a
complaint for stealing against Christies.
Today, I've learned who the consignor of these posters was.... And
the winner is ..........................U P S
Yes, incredible but true, your eyes don't lie. I just spoke with
the french police agent who interviewed me, and she told me that
the seller is a UPS subsidiary .....
As soon as I can get more info, I'll keep you informed.
