I've had the same sort of experience with Christie's in connection with some of the high-end Japanese art I've auctioned there. It depends on the value of the price and how badly they want it in their catalogue. FRANC

Christie's and Soethyby's still charge an outrageous photo fee for their catalogue, which in most cases is negotiable; Heritage does not charge this sort of gauging fee. FRANC Franc, Sotheby's and Christie's actually have EXTREMELY REASONABLE consignment fees, especially to "the trade". Just this last October, I consigned an Andy Warhol print to Christie's in New York and it wasn't even a great Warhol piece. Yes, everything is negotiable, but still.
