Three movies: Jaws, Towering Inferno and Close Encounters...
Back in 1974, I was complete awestruck by these (and later other) summer
movies.
I feel in love with Spielberg, Irwin Allen and George Lucas' work.
Here in Nicaragua during my summer vacations I started hanging around the
movie distributors' offices and started inquiring about posters and buying
some. I remember I used to pay about $1.50 per near mint, folded one sheets.
I started building up a collection that included everything James Bond, The
Rocky Movies, Star Wars, Pink Panthers and other movies of the time. I grew
older, I went away to college, and when I came back I found out that my mom
had thrown away all my paper as trash and donated my Soundtrack LP
collection to a radio station!! I even had

Nevertheless, I started buying used posters at the old cinemas. (During the
revolution, movie theaters showed only Russian, Bulgarian and latin American
movies and many became porno theaters), so American movie distributors
folded and about 15 years ago I started finding a lot of posters from the
private collections of the projectionists of the old movie houses. Would you
believe that in a country of 3 million people where most of the population
is in the pacific side and at least 1 million are in the capital, we used to
have in the early 70's as many as 360+ movie theaters??

Then cable TV came and only the multiplexes at the malls survived...we only
have three malls now with about 25 to 35 screens.

That is how I re-started my hobby. It is great to learn from MOPO and the
real professional dealers, however the hobby is at times confusing because
of the varied pricing for the same item. Some dealers can have a piece for
$500 while an auction result might list it for $15 or $20 (???!!).
Also I do not know if anybody can answer this...has the recession affected
poster prices?? I remember being offered a lot more for some of my posters
ten years ago...
