Ken asked me to post this because he's having trouble getting it through

Hi Rich, I can't get the hang of this MOPO, my last post (below) has been rejected 3 times. It was lovingly directed to you. Can you post it? I have no idea what I am doing.

OK Rich,

We are getting the stage in Just Kids Nostalgia ready for the first "In the Window" Friday night music performance of the season. We are having two very loud, very rockin', 20 something groups play. There will be very few over the age of 30 in here tomorrow night. We also have Jazz, Folk and Blues on other nights and we can't get anyone under 30 in here on those Fridays. (That's a plug for all that will be in the neighborhood, mention MOPO and get into the back room for some Pino.)

So, now you have me going. Any mention of "the kids today" drives me nuts. There are lazy kids from the 50s and there are lazy kids now. Video games do have an impact, but let's not write off any generation as lazy.

The reason that your parents complained about your music is because they didn't listen. Blue Cheer is awful, The Doors are an important point in pop culture with some great songs, but ultimately if Morrison didn't die, he would be on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here. Hendrix on the other hand was and will always be considered a genius.

The reason you complain about rap is that you don't listen to it. Rap is not my music of choice but there is as much great rap as there is great big band material. If big band doesn't all sound alike I don't know what does (perhaps Doo Wop?). Come on, I can't think of a time when most of popular music wasn't very bad. You have to have taste and pay attention to know the difference. Please don't write off any generation. The reason the world is for the young is because they are young. Come to my store on Friday and listen to the young spirit.

I have a feeling that you don't relate to the generations before you, most of us don't. How important was the Renaissance to you and your collecting interests! How well do you remember Paris in the 30s. Why don't you collect Tin Tin. These were not part of your life. We all have our own experiences, it's just that mass media gave more of us the same memories at the same time.

We don't have to be reminded of our immortality by the up and coming generation. You can be vital till the end, we all have a place, just look back fondly, don't move in.

OK, I'm dropping the Farrell.

Ken
