Evan
I think you are missing several points about Bruce's offer
#1 Bruce is a dealer. he is offering a dealer
purchase price so he can resell and make money
#2 Bruce obviously believes he has at least 2
bidders who will bid on the poster, but he
probably doesn't believe the poster will achieve
$486 again because the top bidder has just won
himself a copy, so he's moving down to the level
that the 2 underbidders would likely bid up to,
which is probably closer to $300.
#3 after Bruce sells the next copy, the value
continues to go down as he hopes to sell one to the #3 & #4 bidders. maybe $200
#4 then he hopes to sell one to the #4 & #5
bidders and again the price goes down to their level.
so $300 for 3 copies of a poster that I certainly
couldn't get $486 for (and obviously Moe Everett
couldn't get $20 for his copy) is more than
likely - very fair. He isn't offering to buy the
poster as a collector and your comparison of
offering 1/3 for certain 30s-40s posters is most
certainly not in line with Bruce's offer as what
you're going to ask for is probably head and
shoulders better than Nazi She-Bitch.
Also, if you were to consign to Bruce 3 copies of
this poster and he got $300, $200 & $150 for
them, you would receive $222, $144 and $108 or a
total of $474, but you would have to wait a
probable 12 months for all 3 copies to be sold,
so his offer of $300 again is reasonably fair
taking into consideration these factors

Fair? Really? You think an offer of 1/3 is fair?
Do you have any nice posters in your
collection? I will gladly offer you 1/3 of
Bruce's last selling price for them. I am
looking for some nice 1930s/1940s titles, good
graphics, good titles, major stars.
I am serious. Let me know what you have.

but, but, but,
Â
That sounds like a fair offer for someone who
is a dealer and buying to re-sell. The next one
might only go for $300Â or less or may go $500
or more. I am sure Bruce would take one on
consignment as well and if I had 5, I would keep
one, consign one, and hold Bruce to the $300 for
the 3 remaining. I wouldn't consider anything
less and certainly not the $20 ebay price.
Â
I just hope as a seller that Bruce does half as
well for me as he did on this poster for the
items I just sent to him. In Bruce I Trust.

But, but, but...
You do realize that $150 is closer to $20 than to $486.
You seem to be suggesting that this bidder paid
more than 3 times what this poster was worth.

Forget the idea that this was a $20 poster!
Â
I think this is one of the coolest posters ever.
If someone out there has one in nice shape they
will sell for $150, I will take it.
Â
And to prove how great I think it is, I will pay
$300 for three of them, if they are out there!

There was a couple of bidders that really wanted
that poster. I guess you just have to have the
right audience in attendance at your auction.

Or, on the flip side.--
someone spent 486.00 for a 20 dollar poster...Â
this buyer will be crying the blues, if he
learns that, a month earlier, he could have
gotten the same item, in the same condition, for 2 ten dollar bills.
OUCH!
it all depends on how one looks at the scenario.

After all, someone got a $486 poster for $20
last week, so that guy is super happy and LOVES eBay.
Â
I can see their new ads: "Come to eBay where we
will hide the items so thoroughly that you can
find items for a fraction of their regular price"!

The consignor obviously made a very good

been selling quite a lot through eBay lately but
you have to be prepared to take the risk of
getting low prices for decent posters in their

taken so many buyers away from eBay is an
indication of the impact of the negative policies that they introduced.

It's had another significant bump in the bid price:

Â
Must be that damed time-extended bidding causing the jump in price!

Of course I sometimes get far more than eBay

Â
Absolutely, any buyer with the time to search
eBay regularly should do so, especially if they
can handle the possible frustration of poorly packed or over-graded posters.
Â
Then again, I don't always sell for more. I
sometimes have some real bargains!

Bruce, you are actually making a good argument
for buyers to do a search on eBay before buying elsewhere.

It certainly is a Catch 22.

Not sure how you can promote the advantages for
sellers of emovieposter over "ebayjima" without
it highlighting the opposite for buyers. Hmmm,
appears to be an advertising Catch 22.

Sometimes WHERE you auction (and how many
interested buyers you reach) can mean as much as WHAT you are auctioning.
Â
eBay brags of its millions of bidders, and other
auctions brag of their hundreds of thousands of
bidders, but what difference does that make when
the vast majority of those people will never ever buy a vintage poster?
Â
I will stack up OUR 31,000+ actual buyers (each
of which is someone who actually purchased
vintage movie paper from us) against the bidders
from any other auction in the world!
