John - I totally see where you are coming from. I always tell my clients the
process, so they have a full understanding of what we are going to do.
Ultimately, they make the decision to go forward. This process takes a great
amount of work for such a small piece.
I hear you on the standards, it would be great, and something to work for. The
problem is, each piece can be so different, so it might be a difficult thing to
do. Restorers, I am sure, have had to tweak their processes from time to time,
in order to avoid a problem, after getting into a project.
For right now, my advise would be to talk with your restorer, to make sure you
fully understand what will be happening to your piece. You have the right to
say no to any recommendation given for your poster.
