I think it probably boils down to a personal preference as well-- some liking a signed piece and others seeing it as a defacing of sorts.

im sure, too, it depends on the poster and artist who signed it, that also garner the higher prices.

If you look at past auction results at both Heritage and emovieposter almost all autographed posters and lobbies go for 2, 3 and sometimes 4 times the amount that an unsigned piece goes for. Perfect example is Heritage's Psycho 1 sheet signed by 3 cast members went for almost 10k.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] the value of an autographed CARD or POSTER

Isnt there is a whole school of thought that considers an inscription or autograph on a poster almost like a kind of graffiti? they say it detracts from a piece and lessens its value (production stills or head shots are another animal, altogether, and im not referring to them here).

best.

just like the debates of LINEN vs, UNBACKED affecting values, another debate is:

DOES AN AUTOGRAPH ADD VALUE TO AN ITEM?

most say, YES. MANY PAY SUPER-HIGH PREMIUM AMOUNTS for autographed posters/cards.

am i in the minority or majority that prefer a poster not to have an autograph? if an autograph is "To Elmo from Bette Davis", and my name isn't Elmo.......

if a poster is in poor condition, but autographed, would it fetch more than a VF grade?

thoughts?
