I think as a nation we're lying to ourselves. We kept running up debt and buying items that we didn't need and houses we couldn't afford. We also bought Hummers as if the oil was going to get cheaper and more would just materialize. Our economy is changing in big ways because we as a society didn't want to face the truth about its limits.
