We saw it Sunday morning in the IMAX format and agree pretty much with you. I loved the Victorian era and many of the special effects, but it did have some corny parts in the ending that Burton could have done a better job with. I did enjoy it overall and think it's one of those movies that will be more enjoyable after seeing it again.

It wasn't as good as some people had told me, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some other people had suggested (another way of saying it was that it was no Edward Scissorhands, but it was also no Planet of the Apes). I am a huge fan of Johnny Depp, and yet I thought he was the least interesting part of the movie (although I was not as disappointed by him in this as I was by his performance in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). The weird thing they did with his eyes was distracting, and since you express a lot of emotion with your eyes, it hurt that way too. I thought the lead actress was quite good. If they wanted to make "The Gwynneth Paltrow Story", she would make an excellent choice to play the lead.
